Field experiments of short duration have taken place at the selected pilot beaches. Beach morphology was recorded with high precision using an RTK-DGPS, whereas the nearshore bathymetry/morphology (down to the depth of closure) was recorded with the use of appropriate hydro-acoustic equipment (echosounder and side scan sonar for shallow waters) deployed from a shallow-draft inflatable. At the same time, high-frequency hydrodynamic data were collected from the pilot beaches by deploying high-frequency wave/current meters (RBRs and Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters –ADVs). In addition, sediment samples and photographic material of specific morphological beach features (i.e. submerged beachrocks, sand ripples) were collected.
